I am possibly moving to Canada in 4 years and I was just curious how the rules and law are compared to chicago suburbs and the US etc. Also the uniforms and do you guys use traditional leather helmets or other? Just need as much information possible.... Anyone out there a K-9 Arson Investigator?

Do you know exactly where in Canada you are moving? Laws and FDs and their helmets and all that stuff are different all accross Canada. Thats like me asking you if the whole USA is like my hometown.

Well, I could think of better places to be LOL. On the question of uniforms, they seem to be pretty much "industry" standard on both sides - for the most part. Of course there are always regional variances. On the topic of gear, unfortuantely, I don't have much better info than firefighter kid offered.
On a social note, I'm sure you have noticed that Vancouver is a pretty wide area, geographically. The Greater Vancouver Area actually covers something like 6 burroghs. Vancouver City, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Maple Ridge, Twassen, Delta, Boundry Bay, Abbottsford, Mission... ok those are the ones I can remember. LOL Guess there were one or two more than 6.
Except for the Vancouver locations, all the others run their own FD's. I am not actually certain how they tie in with the City hierarchy though, but they are related in most aspects, I think.
In any case, you are in for a bit of a culture shock! LOL Good luck and enjoy the West Coast once you get there. If you don't do it RIGHT today, when will you have time to do it over? (Hall of Fame basketball player/coach John Wooden)

Except that Richmond has been in some bad press (more so than some) recently, regarding suicides within the Dept and harassment issues.

I seem to remember from the film "Canadian Bacon" that graffiti on the side of your vehicle has to be written in English and French.
Oh, and don't litter.

All the City's you listed are seprate cities with there own fire departments. North Vancouver and West Vancouver are seperate cities with seprate fire departments. The only thing they have in common with Vancouver is the name. LoL.
P.S. You forgot about Surrey

Well it all sounds a bit overwhelming.... It's not my choice to move to Canada, personally just visiting would be okay for me. I have lived in the same town now for 24 years and I really am scared to leave. Most m family already are from Germany alone. I'm the only kid born here in the US. But as far as the boxers that sounds great and all but I'm a woman and if I wear boxers or undies that doesn't face me. I perfer boxers !!! lol

On the other stuff, I knew that most of them are their own depts, but wasn't 100% sure about the "Vancouver" parts. Although considering the geographics of the area, it makes sense that they would all be separate. Never really noticed that North and West were their own "cities" though LOL For me, Vancouver is just a place to DRIVE THROUGH heehhehehehee.
