Farmington is Hiring

Farmington is hiring (1) firefighter. They will be having the test Jan/Feb. Look in the Hartford Curant on Dec. 17th for more info. They have 8 paid firefighters, they work Mon-Fri either 7-3 or 9-5. They are split up amongst 3 stations. 2 stations with 3 guys, 1 with 2.
They will require FF1, EMT-B, Q license, and possibly a valid CPAT card.

Just wondering if anyone has taken Farmington's written before, is is set up like any other firefighter written test?

The written wasn't too bad.

The proctor announced that they are going to hire one person out of an initial pool of 18 candidates. It appears they are in a hurry to do so as well. Whoever is selected should be on board by the end of Feb.

One thing I found curious was there is no requirement or plan to send people to recruit school. They require Fire I to apply. Friends of mine recently started in Meriden were they didn't require recruit school either.

Does anyone know why this would be (other than to save $ on the tuition at the CFA) or how this compares with the practices of other career departments in the state?

Most dept's will send everyone to recruit school no matter what certs they have already, while others will put you on board with fire I. Just depends on the dept. Bristol and Meriden are some of the bigger dept's that dont send everyone to the academy. They save the tuition from sending a new recruit and the money that they actually pay the recruit to attend 14 weeks of school and the money from paying someone to fill a overtime spot every tour.

How are your friends liking it in Meriden? It's a very busy dept.
