    Default Prescription Fireman Goggles

Hey just curious what you guys think about a prescription fireman goggle?

Specially engineered to fit under air-pack masks and protective head quipment that will allow a “perfect seal” for those firemen who need a correction and cannot get a seal putting the mask over their eyeglasses.

    * Goggles contour to facial features
    * Special bridge design allows better air circulation
    * Self adjusting strap holds unit securely on face
    * Goggle made of black nylon-impact resistant and lightweight

Well I would say that one concern is the fact that if there is a strap that goes around the head then there is a potential breech of the seal of the mask. Most Fire Fighters I know opt for the in-mask mounting bracket.

Mr. Optics....this idea exists already. I work with guys who have them a-fixed to thier facepiece already. This concept has been around since....the 70's I believe. The military started it for the M16 Gas Mask.

How about making prescription SCBA masks? Probably time-consuming and a bit costly, but you kill 2 birds with 1 stone!! Just a thought.

FWIW, I am aware of no SCBA manufacturer that allows glasses or goggles to be worn under their facepieces: Neither the bows on glasses nor the strap on goggles can be permitted to extend between the mask seal and your face.

However, most if not all SCBA manufacturers offer mask inserts designed to hold prescription lenses inside their SCBA masks. AFAIK, this is the only legitimately permitted way to "wear glasses" inside a mask.

If you happen to live in an OSHA state, your department is responsible for paying for the inserts and lenses although you may have to pay for the eye exam to get the prescription.

I tried inserts, they were miserable. I bought rec specs and they worked fine until my in-laws hooked me up with the laser thing.
