    Default Detroit FD

I was just reading the report done by the Free Press in 2000 about the condition of the dept. Anyone know if things have gotten better? How many new Pierce Engines and Ladders did they get in total? Good to hear they plan on making the whole fleet eventually Pierce as ALF has been S**t from what I hear.

I work downtown (Not for DFD) and most of what I see on the streets have been the newer red pierce engines. I thinkI have seen one of the old ones in a year and that was at the standby at the State Fair.

I just wanted to bump this, I'm curious to see how Detroit is doing these days. If you didn't see the series of stories the local paper did on them I would suggest checking them out, It will really make you appreciate your department. http://detnews.com/specialreports/2000/firedept/

Detroit is Detroit. Thanks god they have all the laid off guys back. The commissioner is a smart guy with some great ideas about fire dept's and the way things should go. I knew him when he was just a FEO at city airport. The problem is the rest of the government and the damned culture of this city. I don't know how to save it other than a real long term plan and with more tax money. But they keep cutting these tax free deals with companies just so they will come to the city and then the residents get screwed with it and most of them are just fighting to keep themselves afloat.
