    Default NFPA/OSHA Compliant?

    You be the "Judge"....

    Intrepid or Incompetent

This photo depicts the ultimate unsafe way to excavate. It is something one might expect to see if one had been forced to dig their own grave before being executed. This was not the case. Rather, the employee was excavating to lay foundations for a transmission tower.

There are specific construction standards as well as universally accepted practices for safe excavation that stipulate the approved methods of shoring worksite excavations. Battering back or using a trench shield are two safe methods. A couple of wooden poles propping an enormous boulder above an excavation is not trench shoring!

Little imagination is needed to visualize the aftermath if the boulder became dislodged or the walls of the trench collapsed. All the personal protective equipment in the world would prove useless and would not save the worker from death by sudden engulfment. This is an incredible example of ignorance and supervisory incompetence.

Is that before or AFTER the rock falls?

Just a few thoughts on that one. First I bet he is a non-union worker, I doubt any Union would support something that stupid. Second, I am sure he did not graduate first in his class, nor did his bosses. Third, this is what low bidding gets you. And lastly, "Here's your sign."
