hey everyone. i know that you all are aware with the most recent rash of racial jokes posted by guest members. i know this was a subject that was brought up before, but it got shot down and i think this is a good time to bring it up again.
ok, whenever you go to sign up to be a member of officer.com forums, like i am, you must answer questions regarding your status in a department. if you claim to be a police officer, you must fax or mail them proof that you are in fact a police officer. they also have sections in the forums that police officers are only allowed to post in. and the moderators of the wab-site have denide people access to the forums. unlike here where anybody can post in the forums. they don't have these problems there. i think that firehouse should come up with some kind of system to validate the people who post in the forums. if you say you are a firefighter, then prove it. if not then you do not belong in here. that simple.
i like firehouse.com because it is a place where i can come to talk with other "intelligent" firefighters about topics on the fire service. this needs to seriously be discussed because if this continues this could seriously hurt firehouse.

I dont agree with it BUT I do think we need more moderator's to moderate the forums. We have ton's of people here who arent firefighters but are trying to be one or want to be one. It is not far to shun them because of the doings of one person.
On the other hand.... if there was more people to monitor the forum, crap like this wouldnt happen. ANd if more rules were enforced and the offensive content blocker was updated, crap like this wouldnt happen

sorry, i guess i should have made this more clear. they do not shun people who are not police officers. civilians and people who want to be police officers are allowed in, but if you say you are a police officer you must prove it. thats what i was saying maybe should be done here.

I won't pretend to know what the solution is to the recent problems that have arisen on the forums. Last night I posted a couple of suggestions but the thread was deleted by the time that I awoke this morning. It seems that the simplest and cheapest solution would be to not allow guests to post new threads in the Firefighters forum, or to have a moderator review a guest's thread before it is allowed to be posted. Between the racist crap and the endless arguments over topics that we are never going to agree on, it seems as though we are missing the poiint of this site. We aren't discussing how our depts can learn from the recent gas explosion that caused two LODDs, we aren't discussing how ffs can avoid becoming secondary targets of terrorist attacks, or how we can plan for certain weather events. I think that admin has to do something to address this immediately.
