Anyone ever seen SCBA seats mounted in the back of a Topkick C5500 or 6500?

Can that be done? Can you get 3 in the back?

    Hey Canuck...

On a related but not a directly related topic...can I ask what you are planning to build on this chassis?

I know, I know...why does he want to know? I'll tell you if you answer my question.

    canuck...

I should have asked these additional questions in my first post to you.

What type of pump set-up? PTO? Seperate engine drive? What?

    What transmission? Auto or standard?

If I had asked those originally I could tell you why I wanted to know what you were building. I still can after you answer these. Sorry i am not trying to be cryptic just making sure I am not shooting in the dark when i say what I want to say.

Yes, you can get 3 in the back.

3 Firefighters donning them in the back? Not easily.

We have 3 seats built into the back of our GMC 5500, but we don't usually put 3 people back there. It's too tight to try to have 3 guys back there trying to don their SCBA. It looks like a basketball game and everyone throwing elbows going for the ball.

    firenresq77...

What size pump is that? And type of drive, PTO or otherwise?

    Also, automatic or standard transmission?

I know I ask a lot of questions but there is a reason...

Automatic. Has a 400 gallon tank and a 500gpm pump with pump and roll capabilities. Believe it's a PTO drive

Has that been any better than the unit that was "bought back"?

Oh yes. This is 1000 times better. This rig is what the original committee actually wanted, but we were all over-ruled by the chief who wanted the Ford F-550. Well, look what we have now. This truck is so much better all around. Can turn circles around the other one, shorter in length, higher GVW, rides much better, more room in it, etc. etc.

Yep. Just what I thought. It is so much better because it is a GM product and not a Ford

Good to see all this sorted out, you could tell the last one wasn't right, but you live and learn, nice rig!

Is the older F-550 you talk about the Kme that was for sale on a few used fire truck web sites last year ?

It very well could be. From what I've heard, after they took it back they got all the bugs worked out. I know I saw it on TV one day when they had a race at the Pocanohs (sp)........ I had also heard that it was being used as a "work truck" by KME staff. Not sure what it's status is for sure, though......

    Default Rear seats in C5500

We recently purchased a C5500 and refurbished/remount an existing rescue body. We placed 3 HO Bostrom seats on back but at present time are only using the 2 outside seats for SCBA and carrying a spare cylinder in the centre seat. Set up seems to work well though. Wish they built a raised roof option.

    Good luck!
