    Default House Committee on Fire Protection

    The Illinois General Assembly has established this new House Committee on Fire Protection and I am pleased to announce that my good friend and state representative Don Moffitt has been named its Chairman.
    Illinois is leading the way, again.

    Since you mentioned it, CR, is this where some sweeping changes will come from for the fire service? I've heard major changes are coming down the pipe for us. What has anybody else heard?

    Jack; I am having dinner with him next week and he will fill me in and I will in turn come here.
    I can tell you that they couldn't have picked a better person. He can get both sides of the aisle on board. He can get funding. And that is a good thing.

    And if some of you didn't know, Moffitt took the fight to IDPH when no one could get any answers on the EMT testing debacle. He forced dialogue and soon, the IFSA, IAFPD, IFCA were pushing for reform and a new state test. It took almost two years, but I wonder how long it would have taken without Don's constant push to get the EMS in Illinois headed back in the right direction.
    And I also think that you will at least see sweeping change there.
    In my opinion, I think our fire service in the state is in pretty good shape. With everything going on with IEMA, IFSI and MABAS, I see some pretty good stuff.
    I still think that we can do more with the less fortunate fire departments in the state. Don has always stood up for the little guy/the underdog. He studies the issues very thoroughly, gains consensus and then pulls the trigger. He has a deep and abiding love for the fire service. And even though he is a Republican, many Democrats support him and if the shoe is on the other fit and a bill has merit, he will cross the aisle as well. He would make us a great governor.

    Jack;
    If you are referring to changes in the FFII and FFIII curriculum, you're right. There are some fairly big changes coming. There was a post or a thread on it. If that's what you are referring to, I'll try and dig 'em up.

    Jay, I know about the FFII and III changes. I guess I'm trying to find out if training [I]requirements[I]are coming down the line. We don't have any actual requirements to be a FF, at least from the fire end. IDOL has more to say than OSFM. I'm just wondering if the FM is going to lay down the law.
