I'm on the list for Jersey City also, you have to have residency at the time of filing the application through your first year once appointed. You must be between 18-35 yrs old. Thats all I know maybe someone else can chime in about Jersey City best of luck.

Sounds right to me jvirgo actually. Residency does not give you extra points, clifton also takes newark residents and from most of essex county i think as well. So your on a list with not only clifton people but other people from other towns.

TJ0711- i'm 172 on the list...a long shot, but at least it's a shot. Of course you have to be living in the city (proof is really important) and pass the drug test which now I hear they are doing hair samples.

    jvirgo,

NVetro is correct. I am a Newark resident and I also got placed on the list for Clifton and a few other cities as well.. I beleive all Newark residents automatically get on a list for: Newark, Clifton, Belleville, Bloomfield, Millburn, Burlington, Harrison, Kearny..

actually residency has a lot to do with it. my best and lowest ranking was newark where i currently reside. if residency didn't matter then theirs no way that my ranking should be 3 times higher in Kearney and Harrison. considering the town of Harrison is like 8 blocks long and Kearney isn't that much bigger. and iam certain they did not have as many applicants as Newark did also being why we all go the same ranking for both those towns cause they share departments cause their that small.

jviro : if you ranked 91 in clifiton what did you rank in newark ?

Tonyda, you ranked lower in Newark becuase Newark only takes Newark residents :-) The other towns you are pooled with people from multiple towns.

ok i understand what your saying but you still proved my point that redidency does matter. so who ever is infront of me on the newark list is also infront of me on every other list ?

Not shure when dop put this up but you can type in your social now and see what you got on each idividual part of the tests.Dop also states that 2 min and 40 sec and not 3:05 would have goten you the best possiable sore on the physical. that makes a lot of sence to me. I know 3:05 was hard but i think with some training people could have obtained this. i also found that the people who regulerly went to the armory to practice where all doing around that time but very few where doing anything close to 2:40. i had only heard and seen of maybe 3 or 4 guys. and like i thought my worst score was on those videos well below my other two scores

    tonyda,

Very interesting.. thanks for the link. Now I know exactly how I got my final average. One thing I am kind of disappointed at was how we were informed many times by the Newark firemen that instructed the courses and pre-examination test practice sites that 3min05sec will get you the best score possible on the Physical Performance Test. I know this isn't an excuse not to do any better; however, being misinformed is extremely disappointing. But hey, maybe they were also misinformed... no finger pointing besides ourselves for not trying to get much better than 3min5sec, its all good... I'm ranked well under 100 so I am happy after all :-)

yeah from what i understand they pretty much graded each part on a curve they use the word "standardized". I dont think they lied when they said 3:05 would get you the best score. What i think happen was that in past years on a curved OR "standardized" scale as they like to put it 3:05 would have goten you the best score. This year being that they had way more aplicants then in years past the scale had to change and also they had more candiadets better physicaly then in years past. remember this years test didnt have the "bio date" and from what i heard that part of the test portion casued a lot of people to fail 2 yrs ago so they replaced it with the team work videos and they had more people pass the first two portions of the test this year. but i rather they have said nothing about 3:05 and they just say "do the fasts time you can". but i agree people who got 2:40 should be rewarded over people who got 3:05 . i dont think it would have been fair for a guy who does 25 seconds slower then you to get the same score.

    Tonyda,

I agree a million percent, the faster you do it the better your score should be. They should have said "there is no time to beat other than the other candidates, do the best you can, the faster you finish the course the more you score".

I just think it was bad advice that they had all of the cadidates focused on one time to beat. Regardless of all that, I'm still happy with my final, being in double-digits is a great rank to be in for the Newark list.. good luck to all

I beleive in March they will be hiring.. Investigations should start mid-late January or early Feb... also not sure how accurate this is but Newark always tries to get close to 50 per class, all though they usually get 30'sh for some reason..

I wonder how much time the Arson Investigators that investigate new candidates have to investigate all certiified candidates for hiring, this is probably why they never get the full class of 50, not enough time..?????

    GeorgeWendtCFI,

Once candidates are certified from the list for hiring, they are investigated for residency, criminal records, etc, and for the Newark Fire Department, the Arson Investigators do some of the investigating.. And I only know this is fact because I have family, and many many good friends in the NFD.
