Just got to Springfield MO so will take a bit to work things up after I find somewhere to make copies of the handouts for tomorrow.

All DJs and 1199As are out as far as we're being told, so either you got it, are going to get it, or got canned.

    Brian,

Is it snowing in Springfield? I plan on driving into the seminar in the morning from 100 miles away.

Just a dusting, not even .25" has hit the ground and it's already stopped. Most of the area it already melted off. It's following me....

Me too. Luckily I don't even need to put a coat on to get there. Had to hit a Kinko's for the handouts, but that presented the opportunity for MGD to follow me back. I paid attention in college when they taught us how to use trash cans as beer coolers.

    Default What are our chances

Our department has the 2006 updated 1199A on one of our old grants but hasn't recieved the 10Q's yet. I talked to our region 5 grant person and she told me that our grant was under review by a grant specialist. It was for radio equipment. Does anybody have any thoughts on what our chances are for getting funded for the 2006 grant? BTW, she said they haven't sent the 10Q's yet.

It will come out eventually, all denials are out so unless something fishy comes up they're just doing the tech review on the request. Normal SOP.

Smile Tenured grant writer NEW to fire dept = NEED guidance

Hello. I've read your posts for a couple of days and am encouraged by all of your dedicated help to each other. My delima? Moved to Ark last July. Husband and I joined as members of the rural/all volunteer fire dept. He began training for certification. I retired, due to health, a few years ago, as a tenured grant writer, Ft. Worth, Tx. After the volunteer fire dept found out I was a grant writer, you know the rest. I know NOTHING about fire depts!! I have written MANY successful gov't grants. It wasn't so much that I agreed to be their "pro bono" writer...I was almost TOLD I was THE grant writer. I've read many of the successful narratives, but I NEED the information from the dept on everything in order to write a grant. Also, since I do NOT know "sources" for this arena, where are grants for fire departments, other than HLS? We are 100% rural. I've only attended 2 monthly members meetings, and AM "floored" by the "tech knowledge" I MUST have. I'm not scared....I need the experts on THIS posting site to help me so I can help this dept. I have investigated the HLS site, downloaded 2006's grant information. I will not be able to attend ANY of the workshops. These dedicated firefighters and dept NEEDS are serious and the community served NEEDS to know they have a responsive dept with dependable pump and brush trucks. I AM grateful to ALL of you for your help. Thank you very much....sources, deadlines, anything will help me. Melody

    Melody,

You asked about deadlines, etc. Have you been to www.firegrantsupport.com yet? Also, the Fire Corps/National Volunteer Fire Council has information (from today's Fire Corps e-mail) that may be helpful:

    http://www.nvfc.org/news/2007-afg-safer.html

And since someone plugged Kurt, I'll plug Brian:

Addiction, heck I thought it was an epidemic, I keep expecting to see the guys from the CDC on here advising where we need to go and get our next round of shots.

You don't get much more rural than Wirth AR. We got them some donated
turnouts a few years back - they are trying awful hard down there.

    Smile It's Melody...Here I go loop-do-loo, here I go loop-de-la

1st, THANK you ALL for your responses! links and the LOLs!! I'm not sure if the CDC administers to grant folks...with the booster shots or the hair repair folks want to know if the hair on the floor...do you want it glued back on, or the rest of your head shaved to start all over again before the next deadline! My husband, witnessing this "new assignment" to me HAS requested with Dept's President.....a SIT DOWN meeting WITH ME....so I can GET required information required for the "needs" of this dept. No more "grapevine FYI" is going to continue. I learned ONLY thru MY investigation ON the AFG site....this dept got a 2005 award for $84K...for equipment. I've also gotten "thru the grapevine" that NO AFG grant can be applied for until THIS $ is spent? Remember, I know NOTHING about this gov't grant. From what I know, this awarded grant was 1/2 written, the "writer" moved, and left all holding the grant bag. Scrambled and it was awarded, but until I SIT WITH and GET information, I will grow, along with the mushrooms.
I WILL be calling the provided #s...to talk with those who have so kindly offered help to me. I just joined this site 2 nights ago, so, as with everything else "new" in my "new place"....I'm learning...and THANKS for being THE best "teachers" I've seen in a long time. Now, when I ask for the "history" on each truck, each need, with ALL the relevant answers....I hope....and with your guidance....this dept who IS "working very hard" will have smiles on their dedicated faces and some "worry burdens" off their shoulders when they respond to fires. Thank you ALL......VERY kindly.....Melody
