I sincerely hope that was a privately owned "collecter's" truck....if not, wonder what the chief would think about that?

My dream and I hope you don't find this too crazy is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Fairly impressive, considering our trucks are apt to get stuck on dry pavement if we so much as say the word MUD!

I'd think that, if they entered the contest, they'd better bring home the Trophy.

Since that Engine is a Seagrave, the mud can't be very deep.....

When I was in GA, we had off road tires on one of the engines. OK, it was for wildland and dirt roads, but you can imagine what people thought.

Maybe that is the only way they could raise money because the citizens won't vote to give them any, the don't want to go subscription and they can't afford their part of a grant?

For some years, the Woodsboro VFD, Frederick County, Maryland, did a big Mud Bog contest as a Fund raiser. They did NOT have any apparatus go thru the mud, just contest entrants. Apparently it was a success, they have some real decent rigs up there.

We've gone mud bogging a few times with our rigs. 2 of them are 4WD. 1 commercial chassis, the other is a custom chassis. The chief drove the commercial chassis up a logging road one day to get to a brush fire up on top of a mountain range. The ruts caused by the truck were so deep 4 wheelers had problems getting through them. the only damage was one of the stupidly placed rear clearance lights got torn off.
Here's a pic of our custom chassis 4WD pumper (floored the guys down in FL that they make 4WD customs)

See, now I dont have a problem with taking a truck where its GOTTA go. Only makes sense, and if the truck was designed for that kind of work, all the better.

Just dont see the sense of taking a perfectly good vehicle to do 'stoopid' stuff. On the other hand, I do see the point and requirement to produce fund raiser events too.....

Both of our 4WD's are Pierce's...and a bit "squirelly" trying to keep straight down the road

We had two at one point, 274 and 275, but got rid of 274 a while ago. Guys that were around when we took delivery said they were called Zig and Zag from day 1.
