Most of our department's turnout gear is about 10 years old, and the tag inside most sets says it complies with the 1997 Version of NFPA 1971. A lot of it is pretty beat up. All of our SCBAs except for 1 or 2 are Scott 2.2, with no integrated PASS alarm.
Would it be wise to request a grant for a "package" of new turnout gear and SCBAs, or go for one this year and the other next year? I figure we would need 40 sets of turnout gear and about 25 SCBAs. Looking at the info here, it appears we would need about $60,000-80,000 ($1,500-$2,000) for turnout gear and about $125,000 ($5,000 per SCBA). It appears most grants for equipment are under $100,000.
Any thoughts on how to proceed would be appreciated.
