    Default CFD 2007: Who's in the process for Charlotte?

    Who else took the exam?

    Just waiting for the results and the CPAT.

    Figured we could do a progress thread.

    Yep. I took it. So many people there and only 60 will get hired. Long shot but I did it for the experience.

    Took the test as well, again. Took last years test and made it to the final interview where I had an unfortunate (out of my control) experience with the mail and never received the letter to show up for the interview. When they give you a time frame (like 4 weeks) they stick to it, very organized structure and testing process. Don't be afraid to call them if you don't hear anything in the time frame they state. Good luck everyone!

    Charlotte is a beautiful city. How many took the written this year? I recall counting about 1200 in '06. I wasn't contacted after I passed the CPAT in July. I think I received an email sometime in November saying that they were no longer processing my application. Good luck to everyone in the process.

    Beaner51, was last year your first time taking Charlotte's test?

    Yes it was, luck of the draw I guess. I would say this years attendance for the written was about equal to last years, 1 thing we got going for us is the opening of the new station = 2 classes next year.

    I was pretty stoked that they were hiring for 2 classes. They hadn't said anything officially about that until the test. They said there were a lot fewer applicants this year than last.

    So maybe 1:12 chances of getting hired this year... 2 classes of 50 and maybe 1200 applicants there.

    Good luck to everyone, see you at the practice CPAT.

    Good sites for you to check out until then-

    Is it 2 classes of 50 or 2 classes of 25 each? The way I understood it, they are going to have 2 classes of 25, 1 starting in January 08 and the other in July 08?

    I'm not sure how many are in a class I've always heard it's in the 30s or 40s. I'm thinking they will be maxing the class # due to a lot of new positions (2 Battalions worth from what I hear) and it is quickly coming up on retirement for the baby boomers.

    I work for the city and there have been a group of CFD retirements in every news letter.

    We had a dozen or so from our job (DCFD) take the exam. One of them said that Charlotte is expanding stations and adding a 4th shift like we have. Anyone know if this is true?

    I received my packet yesterday.

    I've heard starting salary will be approximately $37k. Does anyone know what salary can be expected after 5 years?

    Received my packet on monday. Hopefully some of us can move past the physical, that seems to be where everybody gets jammed up. To answer the last post. Go to firestation8.com you should be able to find a pay scale under the FAQ section along with a lot of other good info

    Got my packet information. Can't fill it out until the 1st of April.

    I'll be at the orientation, the timed test, the 2nd timed test and the actual CPAT lol... Gonna stack my cards as best as I can.

    So we start out with 1200ish... how many normally fail the written and then the physical?

    I've heard anything from if you pass both you only have 300-400 competitors to 50% make it past both.

    Default Pay scales (although I'd do it for anything I could live on)

    The FY2007 Public Safety Pay Plan is shown below:

    Firefighter I (new hire) = $32,391
    Firefighter I with Associate's Degree= $34,010
    Firefighter I with Bachelor's Degree= $35,712
    Firefighter I top pay= $45,579

    Firefighter II= $37,497
    Firefighter II top pay= $52,761

    Engineer = $45,579
    Engineer top pay= $58,169

    Captain= $59,555
    Captain top pay= $68,943

    Haz-mat incentive= 5% of annual salary
    Special Operations Pay (Stations 3 and 10)= 5% of annual salary
    Foreign language incentive= 5% of annual salary
