    Default Lateral hirings?

Does anyone know of any departments that hire laterally? I am looking to relocate from NC and would like to find somewhere in which I do not have to start completely over.

Also, if anyone has relocated from one state to another, I would like some advice and some of the requirements in transferring certifications and such.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know specifically of any departments, but I think it's a somewhat common practice on the West Coast, in particular California...

You can also take a look at and subscribe to www.firerecruit.com There are quite a few postings and show everything from Fire Chief, lateral FF, and firefighter. It costs a little bit, but I thought was well worth it. You can search any state and generally has the latest postings out there and breakdown of quals needed.

I've heard either Buffalo or Rochester, NY has a lateral program... might look into them.

Buffalo has had a hiring freeze for years.....under a Control Board now. I have never heard of a lateral program there...they laid off over 150 people a few years back. Most have been brought back, and they plan on having their first test in 7 years within the next year...
