    Question Siren

We are looking for a siren for a new truck we are purchasing. We want one of the models that you can have two tones going at once. I know Whelen makes one that does but are there others? Also, can the Touchmaster do two tones at once. From the wording on the website, it sounds like it can but I can't confirm it. We're leaning toward that one anyway. We just want something other than the regular old electronic. Its a bruch truck so no Q. Sorry about the siren thread, but its a legit question. Thanks for the input.

Whelem is the only one I'm aware of that does that.

Here is a link to Carson sirens, they offer a two tone model. I think there are others out there. I am not a big fan of the two tone sirens. I think they confuse the public. I was sitting at an intersection one day when the local ambulace went through. Hearing the two tones makes you think another emergency vehicle is coming. http://www.carson-mfg.com/sa-441-magforce.asp

Hearing the two tones makes you think another emergency vehicle is coming Hey, if it makes them look around and pay attention I don't see a problem. Plus I believe the alternating pitches helps get peoples' attention when they are on the phone, putting on their make-up, reading War and Peace, etc. The Carson is a very good unit.

I have to agree on that. I know when i hear the Q2Bs along with the elecronic sirens on the rigs here in my area, it sure gets my attention.

The Carson unit is on all the ambulances and QRV with the rescue squad I run with. They're very nice and very loud and really get your attention when you hear one coming.

SVP also makes a dual tone siren head, I believe the model number is 441. We run them on two newer engines and they do a good job or getting attention, plus the Q and the airhorns, and people actually notice us...

You can find some more info on it if you search google and the forums here.

Even though i am Aussie, nothing beats a Q.

We use the Code 3 range of sirens now, not bad really, if it the only thing you have.

Our trucks would frizzle with the power needed for a Q.

My department got "talked into one" for a 2003 rig. No one likes it. They prefer the real Q or even the electronic Q.

My department has purchased three more rigs since and all have a real Q.

    Lesson learned.

I believe Code 3 has a dual tone model also. We have on on one truck. It works but the Q2B is what makes people know it is a FIRE TRUCK which weighs 10X more than your Yugo and you need to move NOW! with Grover's adding to the point....

The Carson "Magforce" is the loudest, most effective electronic siren Ive used/heard, and this includes the e-Q. And trust me, Ive heard /used pretty much every brand out there at one point. Several departemnts in my area run them, as do the two departments I have been a member of. They are so effective that one of the largest departments in my area stopped ordering rigs with mechanicals some time ago and are using nothing but the Carsons.

Carson actually builds the sirens for SVP. I know this as the original owner of SVP lives in my district.

I listened to the audio sample clip. Sounds like an air raid warning siren to me.

There is only mechaical siren: Federal Q2.
