Garda and fireman die on duty
A garda officer and a fire fighter lost their lives in the early hours of Sunday when they were struck by a car while dealing with a road accident in Co. Limerick. At around 5:00am the emergency services were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident on the N69 near Askeaton and, shortly after they arrived, the two men were struck by another car. The victims were named as Garda Brian Kelleher (46), a native of Mallow, Co. Cork who was stationed at Macroom, Co. Limerick, and fireman Michael Liston (47) from Foynes.
A youth in his late teens was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving but was later released and a file is prepared for the DPP.
RIP Brothers.
