By the way, my paying job is Fire Protection Coordinator and my base/starting salary is $54,216. I took a pay cut from $67K last year to move into the fire protection group at work.

Looks like I need to find a full time ride! Right now as a POC going through our academy I make 11/hour. Once pass the academy it bumps up to 17/hour. And we only average about 120 runs/year so nothing to write home about. But the pay doesnt matter I would do it for free.

I work for a department with three stations 38 firefighters (24/48 Shift cycle) and protect 640 square miles. I also commute 55 miles one way to work there despite living in another county where I would be making $70,000 as a firefighter EMT. I drive and make substantially less because I love to fight fire and my department gets them regularly. LOL my wife hates it and doesn't understand. Im sure you all do though. I'm a Firefighter EMT Special Rescue/Hazmat $45,000 after 12 years. Currently in contract negotiations and looking like we may get 12% retro'd back 2 years. (Fingers crossed).

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.
