Default Do I have to attend a Workshop?

Can anyone tell me if someone from my department has to attend a Workshop to be eligible for Fire Act?

No, workshop attendance is not a prerequisite to be eligible to apply.

The official workshop doesn't do much to help you write the grant anyway, it focuses mainly on how to get around the AFG website when completing your grant. It doesn't hurt to go, but it is no great help.

If there is one close to you, by all means attend, but you'll probably get your best assistance and advice right here in this forum.

    Good luck!

Even though attending the Workshop is not a requirement for applying for a grant, I would highly recommend attending one. The Workshop explains how the process works, new changes to the program that are coming out, the components needed for the narrative etc. It will not instuct you on how to write the narrative.

Just as important, it's a good time to meet your FPS and ask them questions that you may need clarification on.

The better prepared you are for the grant process, the better chances of being successful.

The presenter at the workshop that I attended last week was our regional DHS representative. It seemed to be an especially helpfull workshop for those departments who have never applied or have never been awarded. She answered all of the questions that were asked and explained why many applications are denied. Free help is always good, just as is this forum.

Do you HAVE to attend? No, but can it hurt?

Attend....they're free...and the only thing it'll cost you is about 1-2 hours of your time. Even the smallest bit of knowledge is worth your 2 hours...when compared to your grant request being 'kicked' for a silly technicality.
