    Post Testing

Even though I have a couple years before I can actually be hired by a full-time department. Would it hurt to go ahead and test to see where I stand for future reference or would that hurt me in the future possibly?

There are pros and cons to that, scfirefighter..

The pros are your getting testing experience, seeing how the hiring process works, and getting a good feel where you stand and need improvement on in terms of written, agility, and oral, psychological, etc.

The cons are you could test and get job offers. When your contract is up you could apply again and not get any job offers.

I'd test out with a select few you think you have no real shot at or any desire to work for and do that, see what comes out of it.

I am not sure why you cannot get hired for a few years. If it is because of your age you will not be permitted to take the test. If it's because of a military commitment, I encourage you to take the exams. Often times eligibility lists are good for several, if not many years.
