Duty uniforms may vary. IMHO, Edwards AFB in California is THE best place to be a firefighter. You work 3 days straight and then 4 off."Lots to do off duty!" I LOVED it out there. You will have a great time being an A.F. firefighter.

I was referring to the "real A.F." I also believe the O.P. was also doing the same. I went through fire school "tech" at chanute in Illinois.

Nope....Chanute closed in the late 80's or early 90's. The fire school is at Goodfellow now. Duty uniform for USAF firefighters is BDU's. Best bases....depends on what you think makes it a good base.

There might need to be some clearification here. I think he joined the Amred Services and not the federal civialian (GS-081) side.

best base for a First Term Airman is by far Ramstein in Germany. That's my opinion.

Eielson, Alaska was my favorite but that was several years ago. I liked it for the off-duty activities. Also liked Eglin, Florida, and Mildenhall, England for the same reason.
No matter where you end up, make the best of it. Best of luck to you.Last edited by davjohnson; 05-18-2007 at 05:42 PM.
