A few guys on my FD have them and love them.

Kevin, aka fireman4949 just got one.

I, a lover of leather lids (not in the literal sense, get your mind out of the gutter! ) am getting a Phenix TL-2 when FY2008's clothing allownce kicks in the 1st of July.

    I love mine too!

One of my fellow firefighters (another dedicated Cairns wearer) just saw mine this morning...He said will be ordering one for himself very soon.

I have some pics of mine in the "Helmet pic thread" around the 300th, or so post.

I will be ordering one in the next few weeks and will let you know. Have not had leather in several years. But am looking forward to it. Just waiting for the Chief to tell what color it needs to be. LOL

I got one a few weeks ago. I love it. The weight is great. I wish it sat a slight bit lower on my head. It does though seem to fit a bit lower then my N5a.

    Thumbs up Phenix Leather Helmet

Our department now issues the Phenix leather to all 1400 of us...it was one of the largest orders ever made to the company (two sets of gear each)...they are not like other leathers you may be used to, they are a 'softer' leather because they are not dipped in epoxy like the Cairns which makes them more plyable and the brim bends easier...they are extremely light; I think they are the lightest leather on the market...I personally like it, although they do have what I call a little bit of a "California look" to them...I now that sounds odd, but it does...Our department field tested every leather on the market for months, both in the field and at the academy (burn testing) and it came out on top...although, look into getting a different leather front...our dept went with a Cairns front because they held up the best...the front that comes with it didn't really hold up too well...hope that helps...stay safe...FTM-PTB...

Trukie thanks.....I talked ro Ray @ Phenix the other day and told me that you guy's at Fairfax are wearing them. It's OK with me if it has a little "California look", maybe that way I won't be so home sick. Anyway, thank you for the info. If anyone else has info please feel free to reply.

Whats the tradition of wearing this helmet? The N5A has been basically unchanged for many many many years. Thats why I wear it, its heavy and sometimes bulky, but it looks like mine. If I took the front piece of mine I would instantly be able to pick it out of a group of them. I got mine to sit lower by removing the pad on the suspension and removing the ratchet and using the foam inserts to keep it on my head, yes I can invert my head, chin to my chest without it coming off.

Still- No one can answer it. I dont believe there is a "California look" when it comes to Phenix's leather helmets.

Maybe he is referring to the fact that the things, while traditional in styling, look a bit plastic? Or maybe that they are yellow? (at least, the ones I have seen are yellow)

Yes I did.... it looked nice, however...

redoing my office (new blinds, carpet and paint) has eaten a lot of the "disposable" income I would have used. If it's still there after car detailing season starts, I might get it.

    Good enough.

BTW, I believe it has been re-listed.
