One of our charter members and the President of our volunteer dept. passed away on Sunday after battling cancer for 18 months. Mr. Keith Combs fought cancer hard, but cancer fought harder and in the end won.
His funeral was yesterday. It was the first fire fighter funeral I had participated in, and it was very moving.
I do have a question though. We are a young dept. and not steeped in much tradition like some of the older depts. Is it customary to park your engine in the bay backwards to signify a fallen firefighter? One of our members did this, and many of us were not aware of this tradition. Do other depts do that also?
