I am looking at getting some new boots, what is better, rubber or leather, and what brands do you like best.

Boots are important!
what type of boots rubber or leather? this all depends on what you'll be using them for. Structure/wildland/station boots/Ems. if you want boots that will be married to your turn-outs for a quick slip-on. the rubber is very comfortable. Leather boots of this kind check out ( Pro warrington's) they make a very good turn out boot. For wildland go with Whites or Nicks. For a good station boot that could be used for all for these types (Pro warrington )model 3007. To find out what meets safety requirements for any boots in the fire service goto ([url] www.totalfiregroup.com good luck.

I switched from the old standard rubber boots to Pro Warrington 5000's about a year and a half ago, and I love them. Much more comfortable than the rubber. The only problem is that they are not completely waterproof, which sucks in the winter. There are some newer rubber boots out there that are supposedly a major improvement over the cheap ones that departments typically issue, Airboss comes to mind. Do a search on here, there's been plenty of talk on the subject.

It's worth the extra money to get quality boots for your feet.
I reccomend the 4000 Pro Warrington 14" Structure Bunker Boots. I also have the 10" Zip-up Pro Warringtons that I wear all the time unless my bunker pants are on.

Leather!!!
Any leather boot will beat rubber any day. I was issued a pair of LaCrosse Firetech leathers a few months ago, and I hope that I never have to touch a pair of rubber boots again.
Go for the leathers if you can, your feet will thank you.
