I compleated fire accademy last year and have found it impossible to get a job, with no mony for more training I am considering joining the Navy or USMC at this time for Fire Fighting. I am however a bit discouraged by what I have been reading since I was hoping that I would be able to land a job pretty easly when I got out. I was wondering if I get my fire science degree while I am in would I be able to challenge the test in any state to get on a department or will I be stuck going back through the accademy again. I suppose in the end I would like to know what my chances might be of getting on a department full time. I was also wondering what the chances might be of staying in the states for crash fire rescue in the USMC.

Do NOT join the Marines because you want to be a fireman when you get out.
Do NOT join the Marines for firefighting training.
Do NOT join the Marines because you want to stay stateside.
Do NOT join the Marines expecting to use tuition assistance to get your FS degree.
IF you want to become a MARINE, IF you want to serve your country, IF you accept that Marines go to war and sometimes don't come back, and IF you believe you posess the honor, courage, and commitment to be one of us, then by all means enlist and take on the challenge.
Otherwise, go join the Air Force and be a military firefighter.
Whatever you do, good luck.

Wow, you just got out of the academy and expected to land a job? Get in line with out 4000 other applicants.
I would suggest asking yourself where do you want to live and work. FOCUS on those two specific reasons. Then go there.
If you cant nail a fire job right away, look at other positions. PEOPLE CONSTANTLY FAIL TO LOOK AT THE BACK DOOR TO FIRE AGENCIES. There are dispatcher positions, technicians, prevention, etc.
Education, training and experience are the keys. You need to look at building a resume and MARKETING YOURSELF. Joining the armed forces is a good way to go, but as posted above, do it for the right reasons. Get in where you fit in.
PM me with anymore questions.
