    Default NFPA 1901 question

I am writing a narrative to replace a 1983 tanker with a new commercial 2-door 2000 gallon job. While spelling out the numerous problems we are having with our old tanker I am adding the correlating NFPA 1901 standards that the truck does not meet. I realize that 1983 vehicles were not required to meet new NFPA 1901 standards, but am trying to make the point that a new vehicle would solve the numerous safety and mechanical issues we currently deal with. Are reviewers going to see right through that or is this a legitimate argument? Thanks

Exactly. Not meeting today's NFPA 1901 isn't an issue for the grant. Nothing built more than 5 years before a new standard ever is. NFPA non-compliance isn't a primary reason to replace anything, age and condition are. New items purchased must be compliant with current NFPA standards, but it really doesn't matter about the old truck not meeting them. Operational deficiencies that exist now and would go away if you had an NFPA compliant truck should be your arguing points, not the fact the truck doesn't meet current standards. We all knew that the instead you said the year the truck was built.
