    Hey, Tammy. Welcome aboard.

The short answer is basically, yes.

A first alarm fire assignment will consist of usually something like the following (dependent upon specific department policies, manning, coverage, etc.):

    3 Engines
    2 Trucks
    1 Battalion/District Chief

A second alarm may be struck if fire/rescue/exposure/hazard conditions warrant. A second alarm will usually be something along the lines of the following additional units:

    2 Engines
    1 Truck
    1 Deputy Chief

On any given fire, other resources, such as medical units, air/light trucks, etc. may be deployed as information and conditions warrant.

    Hope this helps a little.

Welcome too the site Tammy, and remember no question is a silly question
If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

    Cool Thanks Kevin

Thanks a million - I so often read about your alarms and assumed the more alarms involved the bigger the incident.

We operate slightly different in Cape Town

A station will get the call - 1 fire engine will go out and on arrival will request additional pumps and depending on the size of the incident higher ranked officers.

We deal with a lot of bushies and shack fires (wood and iron structures) - I must send you some piccys of those - intense

    Thanks again
