Default Always know where you are on the fireground!

I was enjoying the videos on www.thebravestonline.com and found the one below. While it was a great video, it pointed out to me why you should always be mindful of your location in the fire zone, and wear your gear while in the fire zone.

This guy gets way too close to the window of the compartment on fire more than once, and gets a wake-up call from the attacking hose stream towards the end.

That guy still wore more that we used to in the Navy during fires as recently as the 80s:long sleeved shirt, dungarees tucked into the socks, boondockers. The guys who actually manned the hoses got the OBAs(chemical oxygen breathing apparatus).Nowadays, you see SCBAs and various brand turnouts on everyone on the fire party, not just the hose teams.
Overhauling USN style is about the same shown in the video-lots of water and ripping up whatever burned to get the water on it.For a berthing compartment fire,we figured whatever was in the guy's bunk was replaceable else he would have cared more not to smoke in his rack after Taps, set the damn thing on fire and get us all up at Odarkhundred for no good reason.

Funny watching the homeowner spray it with a garden hose.
