Wake and Funeral Arrangements for Capt Keane
It is with deep regret that the Waterbury Firefighters Local 1339 announces the Line of Duty Death of Captain John Keane. John was a 12 year veteran of the Waterbury Fire Department and is survived by his wife Monica, his son John (8), and his daughter Erica (10).
While responding to a kitchen fire, John sustained head and internal injuries on Saturday May 19, 2007 when his engine collided with a ladder truck responding to the same call. John was transported to Waterbury Hospital, and then to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries three days later.
John was the Secretary of the Waterbury FireFighters Local 1339 and one of the key members of the Union. He was very active in Waterbury's political scene, donating many hours of his time to supporting the department and actively engaging the community. He was a regular in the local newspaper's Letter to the Editor column and the webmaster of the Union website.
A visitation for John will be held on Thursday May 24, 2007 4-8PM at City Hall, 235 Grand Street, Waterbury. A funeral mass for John will be held on Friday May 25, 2007 10:30 AM at St. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury.
A staging area is being arranged for bus transportation to the church. The location will be announced when it is finalized. No personal vehicles or fire apparatus will be allowed at the church. It has been requested that no additional pipe bands assemble. Honor guards will be accomodated with notification. The last bus will leave the staging area at 9:30 AM sharp.
