    Default Air Force Base Firefighting

    Hi all,
I was just curious if there are any bases here at home or overseas where the firefighting on the base is strictly structural, are there any bases with no runways that enlisted airman work at as firefighters. I was just curious. Does anyone have any input on any bases, I recently signed my contract for Air Force firefighter. Just trying to learn some things beforehand. Thanks everyone and stay safe out there.

Most bases have either a runway or have choppers assigned. I am sure there are some but they escape me right now. I am pretty sure you will get the ARFF portion of tech school anyway. Study hard and pay attention in class and basic. You will get out of what you put into it. Best of luck!

Yes there are USAF bases without a flightline or runway, but all of them have a chopper pad or designated landing zone. Two that come to mind are Lackland, TX, and Lowry, CO, but some radar sites would also apply. Firefighters on those bases would receive training on assigned or frequently transient aircraft.

Lackland now owns the runway at Kelly USA. Lowry closed a few years ago and now Buckley is an active base. Malstrom doesn't have fixed wing aircraft anymore, but has choppers if I remember correctly. If you look at AF.mil and look at the sites portion it has all the bases listed. Sorry I didn't think of that last night I was running out of steam!

I wanted to be an AF FF for the aircraft side...

Then they said my eyes were too bad. And I became a medic. I'm much happier than I would have been as an FF.

I joined to be a fighter pilot! My eyes, however, apparently joined for a different reason! You know that thing your mother said about eating carrots and your eyesight will always be great? She lied. Just like she lied when she told us we should stay away from loose girls.

    Default FF Positions

    Gerdes...nobody wants you!

Just kidding bro. Edwards is all civilian. The only bases out there that have military are Vandenberg, Travis, Beale. Los Angeles AFB is also civilian.

I highly anticipate that within the next several years if not sooner, all stateside bases will convert to civilian and all military will be sent overseas. Easier to deploy from Europe or the Pacific.

    Later dude
