whats the process???
hey guys, like many others i am also thinking of going career FF.
here in Australia there is a very ridged and formal process.
Theory (Aptitude test, math, spacial recognition test ,mechanical understanding, grammar test, etc)
...if you pass all that, then you get to go into Fire frighting school.
this is extremely cut throat and competitive, i have been told that thousands apply for places that only number in the low hundreds.
is this the same as in the rest of the world, sometimes it seems to me (and this may be a case of, 'grass always greener') that it is easier in other country’s
im wondering what’s the recruitment like elsewhere? is it as compeditive?
I'm no expert
Just from hearing from others, I think it is pretty similar here. The bigger and better the department, the more competitive.
Very similar around here. Just depends on the locality as to just how competitive it is. With my department you had to submit the initial online application, take a written test, then submit a formal application with your references, reference letter, essay questions, then came the oral interview, followed by your physical test and 16 weeks of rookie school.
Just remember you don't decide to go career. They decide if your good enough. Too many think they can just do this job out of the blue and it isn't so.

If YOU don't decide to go career, who will do it for you????
Just trying to make a little since out of this post, that's all!!!!
I think what BKDRAFT is trying to say is that you cant just go career that it takes a lot of work and that you have to prove to the dept. that you are good enough before they hire you.
I could be wrong but that is how I took it.
