Opening new fire station need ribbon cutting ceremony ideas
Use a ribbon made of paper--butcher paper, newsprint roll, etc.--and break it with a master stream. (Of course, you can't aim the stream into the apparatus bay.) Operator would be either the oldest living retired FF in your department or the newest rookie, assisted by son, daughter, a Special Olympics poster kid, etc.

Include a 'wetdown" of the station by the local departments!
We copied an idea of using two sections of 2 1/2 hose coupled together and having the Chief and Mayor uncouple it together to signify the "cutting" of the ribbon. This is from Chief Lasky's seminar on Pride and Ownership of the job.
The Mayor and Assembly members used a Hurst cutter to cut a light gauge wire decorated with appropriate ribbons when we opened the most recent station remodel.

Wow, damn it. We just had a ribbon cutting on our new hall, and all of these ideas were better than our old stock red ribbon. Can I get a mulligan? :D
Funds permitting, I was gonna suggest printing a big photo banner that looked like a garage door, so you could drive a truck through it "Kool Aid" style. ;)
