I was an AF firefighter and right before I left they were talking about turning most stateside active duty bases into civilian firefighters and having active duty firefighters at overseas bases. as to when that will be implimented who knows. It sure will take a long time for that kind of change if they go through with it

They will always have military FF in the AF. They may decrease the numbers in proportion to Civilians, but they have to have military members to fill AEF taskings, deployments, etc.

    Default That's a new one

Someone must have confused the manpower study with a total restructuring. Several bases are cutting positions. The bases that are losing are cutting both military and civilian. I checked the forum on dodfire.com and can't find any reference to that. I'm sure Chief Warner will tell you if you ask.

It's just been "talk" about doing that. knowing the government they will change their minds about 20 times and then just drop it

I worked for the WiANG as a civilian CFR firefighter for 7 years and all of the day to day firefighting activities were handled by civilians. The only ANG personnel there during shifts were the Fed Tech Chief and occasioanlly guard firefighters in for make up of guard drills. The AFR base on the other side of the airport was staffed entirely with civilians. Both bases had military people who were firefighters but they were not on shift for day to day emergency ops. They were there for training and deployment.

This doesn't seem like anything new, just a continuation of current policy.

The active duty side has reduced both military & civilian positions at my base. My reserve unit has lost a couple of rank positions, but not personnel (yet). Same O same O, do more with less.

Like sfd1992 said; I think that they will always need active duty FF for deployments.
Just someone trying to help! (And by the way....Thanks for YOUR help!)
