Opinions?

We had a 10-50pi couple nights ago around 11pm Central advised the patient was already out of the vehicle however the car was still running and locked when we got there the capt. ordered us to break the passenger window to shut the car when we was about ready to break the window the sheriff on scene told us do not break the window you're going to destroy the evidence the officer got really mad our asst chief walked over and told the officer we're going to break the window for our safety and we went ahead and broke the window at that point the officer was ****ed that we broke the window after he told us dont because you're going destroy the evidence thoughts?? thanks :) stay safe

Well it depends. Was the car in gear? If so than yeah go ahead and secure it. Was it in park, no fluids leaking? If so let it be, it's personnel property and they can do with it as they please if presenting no public safety hazards. You left out some info that may have been helpful here.

Dude- Were you running during that posting?

Consider one big word- Liability.

If the cop wants to be the man and run the scene, fine, were leaving. And advise him of the current situation, the tools needed and we are leaving and its all on him/her. Let the cop do all the paperwork, physical work and be the hero will I jump back into the fire truck and go back to the air conditioned station.

Why break the window if the car was in park and/or stationary? Use a slim-jim or other non-destructive method to gain access.

If the car was leaking fuel or otherwise posed a hazard while running-do what you have to do to make the scene safe.

Your lungs have reached their full capacity.

As to the vehicle, if it were in gear or overheating I could see the point of taking out a window if no other method was available.
