    Cool Need EXPO Advice

I'm going to be an exhibitor at the Firehouse Expo this year because, as a lot of you know, I advertise on the "home page' hiring a lot of Firefighter nationally for side jobs.

My question is what is there to do each day after the show? Remember, I am a married, retired Chief so I don't need strip joint info. Just good bars, fire related stuff, good restaurants, places to avoid............you know.

    Let's see.... "married/retired"..... HMMM...

The way I see it, you won't have much problem. I'm sure the wife will have your day already planned out. Just don't make her mad by talking about all the new toys you've seen and want at the Expo..

Seriously, Everytime I have traveled out of town, be it for vacation or fishing, or both, I try to contact the local chamber of commerce through email and ask for suggestions or contacts. This has resulted in several snail mail brochures and lots of good information as well as local maps.

Where are you staying? Keep that in mind, because I believe the trains stop running at 11....
There are lots of things to do, many resturants (ESPN Sports Zone) and bars in downtown. There is a pretty good brew pub/beer bar kitty cornered to the Expo site......
the harbor is nice to walk around, a few historic sites to check out, aquarium..

There is plenty of stuff to do at the Inner Harbor. I do also believe there is a baseball game as well. Once you get there you'll figure out whats what.

There is a station a few blocks from the expo. I think it's called Steadmen street or something. I know I didn't spell it right but you can see it walking to the show. They sell t-shirts and what have you as well during the show. Our hotel is accross the street from it.

The firehouse is open for visitors most of the day and night. They usually have a table set up to sell BCFD stuff. Everything at the inner harbor is good. There are some great restaurants in Little Italy. That is straight down the street from the Convention but further than you would want to walk. Fells Point is another great spot, especially for bars. You can get a water taxi to take you there from the inner harbor.
As far as what to avoid is everything outside the inner harbor/tourist area. The ghetto is only a few blocks from downtown and they don't call the west side the "Wild West" for nothing. East side isn't much better, if at all. If you are looking to buff a few fires, then both the east and west sides are highly recommended. I don't live anywhere near there, takes me about 6 hours to drive there. This will be around my tenth year going and that has been my experience with the Expo.

Last time there we stayed in the Hotel right across the st from that staion...was up half the night...when they leave on a run they would peg that federal and wake everyone up....as said before ...hit the Inner Harbor...lots to see and do...just go walking

Thanks firewally, I'm pretty sure I don't need to be that close to the station.
And cfdeng3, thanks for the heads up! i think we'll stay close to the inner harbor.

Do you mean that you are going to see if you can see what I saw when I saw it? I'd be somewhat concerned if you didn't see what I saw, unless you saw it first, in which case I'd be trying to see it also. Clear??.....

Well, Spinaker's is about a 10 minute walk or so, towards downtown. Pretty good food there. Then there's the fancy dancy restaurant oh excuseeeeeee me "dining room" at the Delta Hotel that mom and dad and I ate at when they came to visit Labour Day weekend. But that's pretty pricey, and the food being "fine dining" is of course, just kinda so so. Give me a good steak any day instead.

The other direction isn't so great. A&GrubbleU, Subway etc.

Ohhhhhhhhh wait ... you meant in Baltimore. hehehe

I'm so freakin' funny, ok maybe not so much.
