Default Tablet PC's or PDA for Inspectors?

I am looking into going paperless with our inspection staff and wondered if anyone has any experience in this area. WHich system works best? We are using Firehouse Software.

I'm not familiar with the software, but as an avid technology enthusiast and being actively in the IT field, for a position such as that, a tablet would make more sense. It may be a bit bulkier, but it's easier to work with regarding writing wise and such. A PDA is at time awkward to work with, especially since you might be writing so much, but only have a little window to work with. Just my 2 cents.

    Default Fire Programs

Look at Fire Programs, they have a mobility solution that allows you to do inspections on a tablet and then download the data when you get back to HQ. You will also have the most up to date info to the point of the last download on the database....

    Smile Inspector PDA Program

Our department uses RLS Inspector Tools. I do not know much about this software but I do know that our fire inspector uses it in his palm pilot.

Our Fire Inspector uses a PDA for inspections and then sync's with his laptop in his truck to print out any reports needed. CodePal is the software we are using and like really well.http://www.codepal.org

Default Inspection Software and Tablet PC

We are using tablet pc with our inspection software, the vendor we are using is called Emergency Software Products, we have been using them for the past 18 years and are very please. Our inspection software feed directly into our pre-plan software which the FD has access as well as our police. We also have been wireless for the past two years so we can enter inspections and property information directly into the server, we user terminal server so we connect to a dedicated IP address. We also have the pen inspection software which mirrors our server in the event the inspector wants to work off line and download his inspection work at the end of the day. We can also print in the field on portable printers. The hardware we are using is Panasonic Tough Book CF-18 and 19. With Verizon Broadband.

If anyone would like more information, please feel free to contact me at wsmith@fairfieldnj.org.

Emergency Software Products used to be top notch until they were bought out, they only have 2 people left to run the company. Might want to checkout either firehouse or red alert since they are established companies that arent going anywhere.
