Did you notice that he/she put "Which one do you volunteers like better". So this means that he/she is not even a volunteer. Just a troll trying to stir up you know what!!!!
Just someone trying to help! (And by the way....Thanks for YOUR help!)

Every vollie department needs members to check equipment, preform training and do maintenance around the station. When people are performing these assignments... BE THERE.

This job is not about lights and sirens. Try hanging around the station from time to time. Maybe you can learn something from the guys that have been around awhile.

I prefer the dual talons. They are very effective even from the sides. Also, the 911ep ls12 is bright straight on, but not so much from the sides.

Who died and made you fourm moderator???

I'll give you a little background seeing as your new here. For one this person is a troll. It's obvious he or she is trying too stir the pot. Probably someone who has been banned by the webteam and now is back with a new name and trying to **** people off. The main reason people don't answer these light questions is because this topic has been hashed out 2,847,847,472,492 times. So people start to get a little tired of it after a while. So it's not a question of being ignorant but more, being able to spot a troll when you see one, as well being tired of stupid light threads. You will learn these things after you have been here longer than a couple days.

I'm with you on that one. Only people that maybe need them are a Chief or DC.

Isn't that kind of dangerous at night?

    I have:
    2 forward-facing steady-burn whites with selectable intensity (hi-lo)
1 corner amber, each front corner, selectable steady-burn or flashing
    3 rear-facing steady-burn red lights, variable intensity
    2 rear-facing intermittent ambers

My opinions might coincide with someone of importance's POV... I wouldn't know, since I never bothered to ask. My policy is: "Don't ask, don't care."

No lights at all, other than the FMVSS required lights that it left the factory with.

Well, to each their own. Lights are an important tool - the only people that dont use up our way are either juniors or probys.

In my experience the people who hate pov lights usually live in areas where they aren't allowed.

    Default necessity

I know that a lot of people get mad at blue light bandits, but it a department has a proper education process it is a lot safer. Plus in busy highway areas a well identified, lit, back deck (amber lights are SO underrated) can help control traffic until the trucks get there. Our department requires one year membership and engineer status on all front line trucks and then it is the discretion of the station commander before a blue light is allowed

    Talking

WE run about 50/50 only after BASIC
OK In TEXAS you are required by LAW to have lights that are visible 360dg
and at vehical highest point to run code (legaly )if I understand the law.The thing that the public sees wrong with this is when they pass a Bar or tavern
on the road is the LIGHT BARS in the PARKING LOT (MESSAGE).WE are a rural Dept without a lot of traffic or roads.TO answer the ? we run about 50/50 but only after completing BASIC.

    Default Yes! Lights!

I use a lightbar on the vehicle I use for emergency response. Good reasons to. I live in a very rural area with a sprawling community. Our chief encourages the use of lights for the simple reason of locating the scene. A lot of our volunteers respond direct to the scene. while those living near the station grab the engines and support vehicles. I can't tell you how many time you hear over the radio, "OK, I see your lights" This has sped up response times. We don't use the lights as a "CODE-3 to the scene", we use them as here I am. Anything that gets the help to the people faster is good in my book. If you disagree with that, then find another hobby the doesn't have people clinging to life depending on you!
