Default Practical joke on brand new FF

This is a video of a practical joke played on a new FF/EMT-I at our department. We are a combination department and the EMT is a volunteer and a good sport.

I was waiting for him to launch into compressions and get grabbed by the pt or something. How fdo you explain the cracked rib on the insurance report.

(And this probably should be in the off-duty section too )

Have not, will not, click on that link.

Can you please answer some simple questions.

How good do you feel posting this?

Showing your (supposed) Brother caught out by your pre-laid plan to the world, does that make you feel big?

    Sod off and...

    1. Do the your job right.

    2. Show some respect for your Brothers.

For if you can not do 2 you should never have been allowed to do 1.

    Very funny video.

kiwi, So what they don't play practical jokes in kiwi land? If you watched the video instead of assuming you would understand all they did was welcome the man into brotherhood and they actually state that to him at the end. It was a simple funny haze of a sort. Lighten up bro .

Kiwi must have had a traumatic time during his rookie years.

    Default Real

The guy is from Taiwan and just went to EMT school on a whim and started volunteering with us. He has come a long way since that video was shot (early 2006). He is now an NPQ FF I and is in Paramedic school. He is very smart, he is an engineer in his real life.

We wanted to have him thinking "my goodness these guys do not have a clue". Little did we know, neither did he! (I was the guy that stormed out).

Sorry about posting in the general forum, should have read the rules.

That is awesome. I love it. I think I want to use some parts of this in a training powerpoint showing "How not to conduct yourself on scene"

Personally, this is no place for practical jokes. Practical jokes are very unprofessional. Yup. It's all fun and games until someone loses any eye. Sad, really Sad.

    Nope.

First guy that thought it was funny to fill my boots with water got sat on his butt with a bleeding nose.

Nothing traumatic about that for me.

There has to be a few rules...
    Turn-Out gear is off limits..Period.
Causing destruction to someones property is not allowed....

Punching someone in the nose for a bad joke......Well now lets talk about professionalism..

I myself thought it was funny. There are meaner and crueler ways to perform jokes on new guys. Jokes are a great way to make people feel accepted in departments. As long as the new guy, the chiefs, the taxpayers and others don't have a problem with then what's the big deal.

They could always film themselves riding inside a dryer.

    Wow...You Kiwi's are a feisty bunch.

That video was pretty good. Had'nt thought of that one. We stick to the old favorites like setting the tones of when the probie's in the shower, short sheeting the bunk, telling them to check the fuel in the hydraulic generator on the aerial.

I thought it was clever and funny. Good acting. I would not be able to keep a straight face.

Jokes are fine as long as they are kept in control, and gear and equipment are not to be touched.
