Legal Status Please Help

Hi guys my name is Luis and I want to become a Firefighter, i live in Florida, All I have is my green card and social, but i have 3 more years to go to become a citizen, and i really want to become a firefighter, i was told that i have to be a citizen to be able to get that job, is that true?
Also I heard that they pay for your school, while you are taking all the required classes, is this true? Also I looked in MIAMI DADE COLLEGE, medical campus for all the classes required, what is the first classes I should take? EMS!!?? or is there anything else? Please help!
