I had the honor of knowing Scott Desmond. Until this morning I was not aware that he had died. I was aware that two firefighters died in the line of duty and that they were from Contra-Costa County but had not seen the pictures or heard the names involved. This morning when I came to work, I read an article about the fire and was horrified to see Scott's picture. My blood ran cold and I got goosebumps. I have not seen or talked to Scott in about 9 years. I met him through Rancho Santiago Fire Academy (98th), we were fire cadets. After the academy, I would occasionally run into him at different fire tests. He was always happy and enthusiastic about the fire service in general. After a while we lost touch and got hired at different departments (I was unaware how close we were working to one another). It's sad you have to find out about people through their tragedies. I am truely saddened and feel sick to my stomach. It is horriable when brothers and sisters die in the line of duty... it is worse when you know them personally. I wan to offer my condolenses to his family and children. He will be deeply missed. His life has touch more people than anyone will ever know.
Always in my thoughts and prayers, Chad Chase- Sacramento City Fire
