very nice cartoons, the second is my favorite about the definition of heroes.
"sauver ou périr"
"courage et dévouement"
2 french mottoes in french fire service.

BFDNJFF, Now that's just wrong!
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!
One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

Mine too

And yes, that pic of BFDNJFF's was wrong on a lot of levels. Let's start with the burn pattern. Something isn't right there. The roof is burned, and the cabinet, and part of the lamp. Other than that, the man is the only other burn victim. I suspect foul play. The broken mirror could be signs of a struggle.
And most importantly...there's no chili on the hot dogs. That's just awful

In the "answer question, ask the next" thread, someone asked "Why did God create firemen?" The alternate answer I gave was "Because He knew that, though He gave mankind brains, some would choose not to use them." I present to you, a video, showing such people in action. To me, the pic looks very pixelized, but once you click the play button, it shows up clearly. Also, that is indeed a flaming aerosal can that guy is whacking around.

We had a cat that we caught pooing in the toilet once. This reminded me of him.

WHOA wait a minute...I can understand how the goldfish died, but how exactly did the cat bite the big one? Methinks the shovel was used for more than just digging

After that pic was taken, he pulled a big (or would that be small?) drunk, got on his Rascal scooter -naked- and whizzed all over everything. Now what makes that so funny is that he really did that. I saw it on the Surreal Life. Or at least that's what supposedly happened

There's a photograph book about the aftermath of September 11 and one section is devoted to some of the drawings placed at Ground Zero.
One picture showed Superman,Spiderman,Wonderwoman and others collecting autographs from firefighters.
Goes to show just how high the bar is set for us to maintain either as paid or volunteers.

We had a burn barrel that someone lit off recently and didn't know that a number of aerosol cans had improperly been placed in the barrel(How you can properly place a spray can in a burn barrel?I dunno)
But we all knew they'd been put in there when the plastic valves failed and the contents started cooking off like a hot M60.

That reminds me of the time my sister and I spent the summer in Michigan with our aunt. They had thrown some stuff in the burn pit behind their house. One of the things thrown in there was a full bottle of vegetable oil. And on top of that was a mop. So when the pit was lit and after the cooking oil hit it's exploding point, it did and made a big show of it too. It caught pieces of the mop on fire. The flaming pieces scattered all over their field, which hadn't been mowed in 3/4 of forever. So my cousin (who is a grown woman) was running around the field stomping out the wee fires the mop caused -- with her bare feet. And my sis (also a grown woman) was running around on the porch yelling "We gotta call somebody!!"
Uh DUH -- firemen? Maybe they could help
I told her that. And my cousin heard me and she said, "NO because they'll call the DNR office on us and they'll fine us for burning this stuff!" The fires were put out, and my sister calmed down. And I did eventually quit laughing.
But it wasn't so funny when I was almost shot by the vacuum cleaner. Yes you read that right. No, I haven't been drinking, and I wasn't then either. I was helping my aunt clean out her fireplace. While doing that she found a .22 bullet. You know, the small ones. So after scrounging around through the ashes, she said I could go ahead and vacuum it out. After about a minute, I sucked something up and then the vacuum started making a very funny noise and then BOOM!! The light on the front of the vacuum, that whole front panel blew right off and it make the most ungodly noise as the bullet exploded. I'm not a tall person, being only 5'1". But I made it across her living room and into her kitchen in just about 4 steps. I was a little bit frightened
