UNION CO., N.C. -- A firefighter died on his way to a fire call in Union County Saturday afternoon.

It turned out to be a false alarm at a nearby school.

Todd Hage is the first Wesley Chapel firefighter to die in the line of duty. He was the only one in the firetruck that crashed on Waxhaw Indian Trail Road.

Investigators have not said what caused the crash, but there are no indications another vehicle was involved.

Hage joined the fire department in 2006. He left behind a wife and two young children. Funeral arrangements are being planned

With a heavy heart, I extend the thoughts and prayers of this family of former, present and future firefighters to the family, friends and coworkers of Todd Hage, yet another of America's Bravest taken much too soon, at the time of his tragic passing.

May the Good Lord raise him upon high and bring loving comfert to those in mourning.

    Peace and Rest, Brother.

I was in the second company to come up on the scene of the accident about 60 seconds after the first company. He was my partner that day. It has been a hard 3 and a half months but everyone is doing well. My prayers are with his family and with the other departments which have been through this before.
