training with TIC.

is there a training officer in each fire department in the US,to explain how to use TIC?

who can use the TI?everyone in fire service or just officers?


here,TIC are so expensive,so only officers use it or are in charge of TIC.we do not have a lot of TIC.

In one way, shape or form each department probably has someone working/responsible for training. With about 30,000 departmnents it's hard to speak for everyone.

How the training officer's positon is handled is more based on the size of the department. TO positons can be assigned to an officer as an additional assignment, such as ours. As a shift officer, I'm assigned as the department's TO responsible for all department traing. Some departments have permantly assigned TO's, while the larger department's may have a training division.

As for the TIC, every member of my department is trained in the use of the TIC. There is no set rule on who is trained/responsible for the TIC, it's up to each individual department to make that determination.

My department the TIC comes along for any fire related call. Hook it on the belt just like the habit of grabbing the ax/haligan when leaving the engine. Everyone is trained to use it.

thanks for your replies,it is nice to know how you deal with TIC in the USA,cause here it is a pretty new tool for french firefighters,only large departments have one TIC.

Whatever you have for a TI you need to train regularly with the unit under heat conditions everything you look at can look different when you have high heat, or difficult to interpret under cold smoke conditions,
So if the imagers are new to you bring in Instructors we have used Safe Ir. and the training was eye opening when we got our first unit. http://www.safe-ir.com/ Not sure what you would find in your area.
