FFs fired for joining union? Court agrees, orders re-hire, $700K backpayEDGERTON, Wis. — The Edgerton Fire Protection District could owe three firefighters a combined $700,000 after an appeals court ordered them reinstated.
The firefighters claimed they were fired in 2003 because they joined a union. The district board said it let them go as a result of a financial crisis.
Arnie Lund, Ken Crandall and Mark Backes were the only full-time paid employees in the mostly volunteer department. If the district board does not appeal Thursday’s court ruling, it could owe them more than $700,000 in back pay, benefits and interest, their representative said. You only have to be stupid once to be dead permanently

When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution
and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy. - Dave Barry.

It sounds like the Brothers did their homework... and hired an excellent labor attorney!"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."
