WAGENER - A 36 year old firefighter from Wagener died in a fiery wreck that sent two others to the hospital.
The wreck occurred on Camp Rawls Road just outside Wagener.
The firefighter has been identified as Jeff Swartz. He was responding as a medical first responder to a respiratory call when he lost control of his vehicle and struck another vehicle carrying two other people. He then overturned off the roadway and his SUV burst into flames.
He was trapped inside and was unable to free himself.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aiken County Coronor Tim Carlton has reported that Mr. Swartz died as a result of carbon monoxide inhalation and thermal injuries and toxicology results are pending.
