Default As If I Needed Another Reason

After spending the better part of an hour listening to the judge in John Couey's sentencing trial I am absolutely convinced that some people need to be put to death. Not for any deterrent effect on others but simply because some people'a actions are so horrible and heinous that their continued existence is a blight on mankind.

Agreed. As long as there is real evil in the world, the anti-death penaly folks don't have much to stand on. The problem with the death penalty though is for cases other than ones like this, where say the wheelman in a robbery gone wrong is put to death while the trigger man who testified against him just gets life with parole. I would say that we do use the death penalty too liberally, but that does not mean it should not be used at all.

I would agree with you....there are just some things people do to others that by doing them should automatically, if convicted fairly and justly, allow us as a society to revoke their right to continue living. I don't think it should be applied freely and liberallly, but as you said it has its place and this Couey case is definitly an applicable situation.
