I found ya'll while reasearching a career change. Ive been doing a lot of lurking and this site seems to be a great source of information . So I thought I'd jump in with a few questions. I am 36 years old and have been looking in to a career as a FF/EMT, seems a bit late in life for this kind of move but its something I have always wanted to do . So here come the questions ......
What makes a good candidate coming from the civilian world ? As side from the physical fitness aspects of the job . There reason I ask is that in my other life , or atleast for the past 7-8 years part of my hobby/part time job has been to train Fire Depts ( in every thing from Open Water Scuba to Advanced Search and rescue ( including Full Face MasK, Dry Suits , Surface Supplied Air, pretty much any of the Basics in or in the water)I also have Instructor Ratings for ASHI infant child/First Aid/BLS and Aed) along with a few others both Technical and Commercial. Ive had a lot of diffrent opinions from the Captains and LT's that we have trained but wanted to hear from some other folks who werent there to pass a class (haha) Any how I will be starting my EMT this month and plan on Fire School in Feb with an eye towards Dive Search and Rescue down the line , would love to hear any words of wisdom .
Thanks In advance and sorry for such a long first post.
Michael
