Sometimes I wonder if reporters even pay attention to what they write:

Story by nbc10.com
BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. --
Two firefighters were fishing Friday at Silver Lake Park near Route 13 and Bath Road in Bristol Township when a bag floating on the lake turned out to contain a severed human head.
The catch appears to be a male head, Bucks County Detective Frank Dykes said. It was in a fabric bag. Detectives are not sure how long the head had been there.
The coroners preliminary finding is that this is a homicide.

George,
I don't think it is part of the journalism education requirements to make sense or even understand what they are writing.
Many years ago I was stationed at a military base in far Northern Maine (1970's). Some base personnel and their familes were hiking in the woods on base and came upon a "body".
The Bangor paper reported that the hikers found a headless torso with both arms amputated at the wrists and both legs amputated at the knees. One remaining arm was bound behind the torso with an old sheet and the remains were lying on the ground. The last line of the story was "Foul play has not been ruled out".
A pathologist was duly summoned from Washington DC and identified the torso as belonging to a black bear.
Stay Safe

I was in crew in college and was intrigued to read a local newspaper article that described how someone found a body at the bottom of the river (shallow water) with 40-lbs of chain wrapped around its chest, and cement blocks tied to the feet.
"Police are investigating it as a possible homicide."
