Thumbs up One Question (And i know it can get answerd here)

I'm wondering about how the Maltese cross became our symbol I've read alot about it and theres a couple of different stories out there about it but i figure with all these Fire Fighters around there has to be one explanation that almost everyone agrees on

    P.S.

O and by the way my name is a pet name given to me by my Dept. because i grew up an a farm and the rest is a long story

    Thanks in advance

St Florian was a Roman soldier assigned to nightwatch duty which included fighting fires that broke out because some centurion forgot to douse his cooking fire properly.
He converted to Christianity and was ordered to be executed for his belief by burning at the stake.
Ironically, the executioners couldn't get a fire lit which caused him to laugh and have more time to pray while they found a different way to kill him. Finally,a millstone was chained around his neck and he was thrown into a nearby river. When they later tried to find his body,it had moved several yards from where he'd been thrown against a strong current.
I may have omitted some details but the story as I told it came from a FH ariticle from several years ago.
