All I can say is that no evidence of Lemmings or Blind Sheep were found until some time later and a long way from the actual truth.

Yeah right, just try getting that group to not talk! The one thing about conspiracy theories is that they always forget that its nearly impossible to get more than 2 people to keep a secret, nevermind hundreds! Toss in firefighters who endured the pain of losing so many Brothers and this rumor is pure lunacy.
