    Unhappy Holy Crossfire Batman!

School Bus Gets Caught In Shootout. Bus Was Carrying Preschoolers

    POSTED: 8:14 am EDT September 18, 2007
    UPDATED: 8:33 am EDT September 18, 2007

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond police and school officials said a bus carrying 14 preschoolers got caught in a rolling shootout.

No one on the bus was injured in the incident Monday afternoon that left a bullet hole in the city school bus just below the driver's door.

Richmond school system spokeswoman Felicia Cosby said driver Arlene Smyre told the children to get down, and maneuvered the bus through crossfire at an intersection where people in two cars were shooting at each other.

Smyre stopped several blocks away. She and the children were shaken, but unhurt.

The children on the bus were 3 and 4 years old. They had spent the day at a Head Start program run by the city school system and were on their way home when the gunfire erupted.

Police believe a man who showed up at a Richmond hospital with a gunshot wound was involved in the shootout.

WOW....those kids and the bus driver were very lucky, all things considered. Wrong place at the wrong time, but to get through it without any injuries is very fortunate. Hopefully the police can figure out who was involved and rough the punks up a little.

I wonder if this will get the "ballistic book bag" debate going again?

    Had the same thought.

Jeepers, a combination of strict gun control and ballistic book bags would have prevented this incident.

Oh wait. There already is strict gun control in MD. Never mind.
